Oscar’s 2018: Best Dressed on the Red Carpet
The 90th Academy Awards not only honoured the work of some brilliant movies, but displayed some unique and interesting fashion choices on the red carpet. Who played it safe, who took risks, and which looks dazzled the most? Scroll through to see my personal favourites of the evening.
Lupita Nyong’o is known for her stunning red carpet looks, and she didn’t disappoint in this custom Atelier Versace, gown, and a Versace bag. Her hairdo is the most unique part – it’s a new spin on a traditional Rwandan hairstyle. Here is a look at the updo, carved into crescent-shaped pieces and accented by a gold thread.
Emma Stone missed the mark with her outfit, as she ended up looking too casual for the occasion. However, I believe in appreciating risks and I’d have liked it better if the Louis Vuitton blazer was lengthened to a mini-dress and she skipped the pants.
Even though I’m not a big fan overall, it’s a big yes to her perfectly done makeup!
Jennifer Garner looked stunning in a cobalt blue Atelier Versace gown. Her diamond-and-sapphire Piaget drop earrings just emphasised the classic glamour that we’ve adored on the red carpet for years. She might have played it safe in terms of her gown, but it works in her favour all way.
Margot Robbie has risen to fame due to her acting skills, but her fashion sense has definitely added on to why we love her! Although she didn’t win Best Actress, she won my vote for this breath-taking white Chanel Haute Couture gown. Right from the form and fit of the dress, to the matching Chanel clutch and her effortless wavy bob, she wins a spot on my top 5 of the night!
J Law looked amazing, and somehow managed to give off a sweet girl vibe despite her gown which rocked a lot of attitude. Her sequin Dior gown won my heart; I love the way her red carpet style has evolved over the years. From bright bold colours in fitting dresses to pastel flowy gowns and dresses with bling, she’s done it all!
I’ve just heard of Eiza Gonzalez, and seen her only in one movie, but she’s made sure none of us will forget her for a while after this simple but statement sleek bright canary on-trend yellow dress by Ralph Lauren Collection. It’s a mix of classic Hollywood and modern elements, and she looks as elegant as ever. The stunning bracelet and earrings balance the outfit well.
I’m a HUGE fan of bling and sequins – so I can’t take my eyes off Gal Gadot in a silver sequin Givenchy Haute Couture dress. But the icing on the cake is her mesmerising neck piece from Tiffany & Co. There’s always a lot of bling on the red carpet, but this was a good way for her to stand out from the rest.
Nicole Kidman was definitely another favourite of mine, and her sculpted blue Armani Privé gown commands attention from head to toe! Right from the fit of the dress, the oversized bow and the centre slit and flare – I can’t take my eyes off it!
This Barbie pink Michael Kors Collection gown gives Viola a sweet glow, compared to her rather stern and formal on-screen persona on the hit TV show(that I love) How To Get Away with Murder.
I wish she had ditched the hoops, and gone for a clear-white clutch bag instead. Overall, I’m glad she took the risk of wearing this outfit, but with a different set of accessories she could have aced it.
Taraji P. Henson
Taraji in a custom Vera Wang gown and St. Vincent jewellery is the ULTIMATE ‘boss babe’ look of the night! She oozes high-fashion appeal, and always carries it off with perfection. Look at that shine on her leg though!
Allison Williams in this Armani Privé gown convinces me that she’s actually an angel. Although it’s a safe play for Allison, she looks ethereal. Well dressed, but doesn’t make it to my favourites as I would have loved something more than usual from her.
Saoirse Ronan’s Calvin Klein gown was youthful yet sophisticated, just like her as an actress. I love everything about this sweet innocent vibe, and she earns a spot in my top 5 of the night.
Salma’s shimmery Gucci dress certainly grabbed my attention but I’m pretty confused. There’s something definitely eye-catching about this gown but it doesn’t seem to work for the beautiful actress. Fun fact: Hayek’s jewellery totals over $4.2 million dollars!
I would have preferred the look if it was slightly toned down on the bling. This doesn’t come close to anything I’ve seen from her previous looks.
Zendaya’s one shoulder- Giambattista Valli dress makes her look like the statuesque Queen that she is! It’s given that this girl can rock anything, but the dress lacks that certain boldness due to its dull colour. Her earrings, classic topknot and smoky eye win me over, however. Not my favourite look, but I can get behind it.
I’m extremely jealous of Gina at the Oscars! Not only does she look like a dream, but she is wearing one of my favourite designers, Zuhair Murad. Her sweet smile and the ability to confidently rock any outfit without subscribing to industry labels of ‘what’s appropriate for your body type’ always keeps her on top of my list.
And this is my style round-up at this year’s Oscar Awards! What are your favourite looks from the 2018 Oscar Awards? Let me know in the comments, would love to hear your thoughts.
Until next time,
